Welcome!

Follow my journey toward publication. Laugh, cry, point and stare-- it's all good. I'll leave a trail so that you, my fellow author, may have a straighter path to finding your own elusive publishing contract. Adventure awaits. Let's travel together...

Crit Partner For Hire

Today, I did something exciting and a little bit scary. I hung my shingle and declared myself available as a "crit partner for hire." After making announcements on Facebook and Twitter, and through the ACFW e-Loop, I've already completed one free sample critique, which was very well-received. =)

I'm excited at this new scenery on my road to publication and wanted to share it with ya'll. All this week I'm offering free one-page critiques. I know I need to prove myself to all my fellow authors and I'm eager to do it.

Do YOU want a free critique? Please let me have a crack at it, no obligation. Are you polishing up that all-important First Page, or getting your project ready to pitch? Want help diving into deeper POV? I'm your gal.

If you're willing to let me take a peek, attach and send your one page in a Word doc to michelle_massaro at hotmail dot com. In the body of the email, please tell me the genre and time period. Fiction only. No Speculative or Sci-Fi, sorry! But supernatural elements are fine.

I've added a new page here on my blog for my critiques and on it you can read endorsements from some of the partners I've worked with before. Here's the direct link with more information: Critiques

Let me end with a question today...have you ever paid for a critique and if so what was your experience like? Anything you want to share about critiques--partnerships, groups, paid--is welcome in the comments of this post. I want to hear from you!

Hi, Michelle! One of the things I love most about blogging is "running" into new people. I saw your name on another blog and thought I'd pop over to say hi.

I just recently finished my first draft of my first manuscript and I'm in the process of rewriting and learning from craft books. I've only had one scene looked at by a critter and that was a friend from high school. I'm just getting my feet wet and hope to one day find a critique partner.

Looking forward to following your blog!

Hi, Gabrielle! Great name, that's one of my daughters' BFFs. =)

Welcome to the journey! It's fun and difficult, lol. But friends make it smoother.

If you haven't already done so, I highly recommend you join ACFW. They offer online courses, accountability with writing and editing goals, and you will meet A LOT (seriously, a LOT) of writers to create a support system. And if you ever need to know something for a story--like "my character gets shot in his driveway and his wife takes him to the hospital. What are the doctors legally bound to report to police?" or "What are some local phrases used in Philadelphia?"... well, the ACFW eLoop has never failed me. Such a great place to be I can't say enough about it. And it's very affordable! Under $100 per year and that includes all their online courses.

Anyway, good luck and welcome. Facebook me too. And if you want a free one-page critique, email me and I'll be happy to do it. My "free week" ended last week, but I'd love to help a newer writer. =)

I am a member of ACFW and I love the course loop. I haven't been able to dig deeply into the ACFW site for sheer lack of time, but I am looking forward to all it has to offer. I keep missing the course on learning how to become a critique partner - I signed up for it, but have never been notified when a new class is beginning. I'll have to check into it!

Thank you for the offer for a free critique - I may take you up on it! Happy 4th of July and thanks so much for stopping by my blog and following me. We're off to my in-law's lake home today to enjoy the beautiful weather. :)
