Okay, this is not the norm but last week's Story Improv was looking good but I had some problems with the blog that slowed things down. So I want to see how this one is going to go this weekend! Have at it:
"Don't lose him!"
"Which way did he go?"
"There!" Lauren changed lanes, threading through traffic in the direction of Mary's finger.
7 comments:
"I can't believe you talked me into this," Lauren hissed.
"He seemed harmless." Mary pulled her seatbelt tighter and grabbed the door handle.
"He's got Anne!"
"I said,'seemed' didn't I? Go faster!" If only they could call the police.
But who knew how many of them were involved.
Ohhh...Nick was gonna kill her! He'd told her to leave it alone. Let his team handle it. But no, she had to do it her way. Prove to him she was just as good at this job as he was. Maybe better.
"Call Nick."
Lauren's brows rose into her hairline.
"I know. Just do it."
Anna's life was worth way more than the tearing into she was about to get.
Lauren struggled to drive and dial at the same time.
"Nick Balducci." She shook her head. He always answered the phone the same way, even when he knew who was calling.
"Nick, it's Lauren."
"Yep."
"Mary and I..." she bit her lip. "We're in trouble."
"Trouble? What trouble?"
A gun shot shattered the windshield.
Mary gulped down a scream as Lauren shouted into the phone, "The kind of trouble that can get us killed!"
"Where are you?" Nick's no-nonsense voice came over the speakerphone.
"Driving like a maniac down the highway."
Beside her, Mary rolled her eyes. "Lauren, that's not going to help him find us! Give me the phone!"
Snatching the phone from her hands, Mary swallowed hard before putting the phone against her ear. "Hi Nick."
From Julie Arduini:
"Mare. I'm on the road. Location. Details. Now."
She knew his bark was out of concern. Her own voice sounded foreign to her, her voice catching.
"When Lauren was dialing we passed the exit for...Rossi's." Rossi's restaurant. Their restaurant, once upon a time.
Mary waited for a response. She received silence in return.
"You know the one, right?"
"I know the one." His nearly inaudible response told her he did.
"I thought I told you not to get involved. That was a gunshot I heard, wasn't it."
"Yes, it was. Nick I'm sorry...and scared to death!"
"Fall back but keep them in sight until I can get there! I'm almost there!"
Nick revved the engine waiting for the light to turn green.
"What has that woman gotten herself into this time?"
The light changed and the car in front of him pulled forward. Nick gave his side mirror a quick glance before gunning it to pass the beat up Ford Escort blocking his path.
